Thailand's tourism appeal has been topical for decades, way before social media presented us with stunning visuals via photos, reels or vlogs. A hub for a plethora of visits and experiences, tourism has been a consistent pull for the country, amassing between 33 million - 35 million tourist arrivals year on year.

Even as touristic traffic is reported to have slowed down due to some emerging factors, , Bangkok Post reports that Thailand has maintained its allure in tourism and recreation throughout 2025. In this post, i share a step by step guide to overcoming one of the major hurdles Ghanaian passport holders are likely to face when visiting Thailand; visa challenges. Folks, it is tasking, but not unachievable.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Thailand in November 2025, and i absolutely think it's a destination that deserves a spot on everyone's must-experience list.

Background

In November 2025, i hosted a 10 day group trip with clients of Shesuthman Travel Experience, traveling through Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai in Thailand. For the purposes of this trip, we (Ghanaian & Nigerian) needed thai e-visas for a smooth travel experience.

Step 1: Determine your dates of travel

This should go without saying, as all visa applications require certainty on travel dates, but especially for Thailand, as the consulate strongly discourages applying for visas 3 months before departure dates. The ideal window for application stands between 4-6 weeks prior to travel date.

Step 2: Determine your jurisdiction of application

Despite being an E-visa, the Thailand visa application is processed under jurisdictions. Applications for Ghanaian passport holders living in Ghana are processed through the Thai Embassy in Abuja, whereas applications of Ghanaian passport holders living in the diaspora are categorized under different consulates jurisdictions.

Step 3: Finalize and gather documents

Here are five (5) documents required for initial submission

  1. Passport Bio Page (in jpeg or JPG format)

  2. Passport Picture (taken within 6 months)

  3. Document indicating current location (a utility bill would suffice)

  4. Invitation Letter (if you have paid tours with a Thai travel agency, this could be provided by them. Otherwise, your hotel and tour bookings + return flight itinerary can be submitted)

Kindly note that all documents uploaded on the portal are limited to 3MB

Step 4: Complete Visa Application

Here are five (5) easy steps to follow

  1. Visit the Thailand E-Visa portal

  2. Determine Type of Visa (this blogpost only covers Tourist Visas)

  3. Create an account & activate the account via email confirmation

  4. Fill application form

  5. Upload supporting documents

  6. Proceed to make payment via your debit/ credit card

  7. Submit your application

Step 5: Feedback from the Thai Embassy

Notes on Feedback / Proccessing Window

  • Upon receiving your application, it can take up to 10 working days  to receive feedback on your application. This is done via email.

  • The Embassy is very likely to request for further documentation (depending on your application profile). Find details on possible documents below:

    For Employed Applicants

  • Return Flights (Can be a reservation, not necessarily a confirmed booking)

  • Proof of employment (Employment Contract & 3 months Pay slips)

  • Bank Statements (3 months)

  • Travel History (a scan of previously aquired visas/ immigration stamps)

  • Police Clearance Certificate

    For Self-Employed Applicants

  • All requirements listed for employed applicants above, in addition to:

  • Company Registration Documents

  • Tax Clearance Certificate

Additional Notes

  • Upon submitting the additional documents, it can take between 5 - 10 working days to receive feedback on your application.

  • The Visa Fee for the Thai E-visa is $40. There are no hidden/additional charges

  • The visa is single-entry and can only be used once

  • The visa is non-refundable and non-transferable

Step 6: Receive Your Visa

  • Provided all conditions and supporting documents are sufficiently covered, the embassy would reach out with 1 or 2 of the updates below:

  • Issue your e-visa in a downloadable PDF for your travels

  • or request a meeting to ascertain the validity of your application. This may be virtual (a Google Meet link will be shared) or in-person (in Abuja).

  • Kindly note that all pointers listed above could happen within 12-72hrs of your travel date. In the event that you're unable to travel to Abuja, send an email to the consulate at consular.abj@mfa.go.th requesting a virtual meeting.

Concluding Notes

Admittedly, the Thai E-Visa process is cumbersome and a lot more rigorous/ time-consuming than your regular touristic e-visa. However, i can say on authority that Thailand is absolutely worth the hassle, and you absolutely should consider adding it to your 2026 bucketlist if you can!

If you need assistance planning your Thailand adventures, be sure to email to info@shesuthman.com and we'll be happy to assist you with the best of authentic travel experiences with YOU in mind! Best of luck in your applications and save travels!
